Understanding RECO's Information Guide

What is the RECO Information Guide?

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) oversees the regulations for trading in real estate within Ontario. These rules are governed by the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA), which replaced the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA). Under this legislation, Ontario REALTORS® must provide and explain the RECO Information Guide before delivering any real estate services or assistance.

What REALTORS® cannot do before you sign the guide:

  • Offer any real estate advice or opinions.

  • Provide services such as showing properties or preparing offers.

  • Do anything that would encourage you to rely on their expertise, skills, or judgment.

The guide ensures you fully understand your rights and the services being offered before proceeding with any real estate transactions.
